The Brazilian Journal of Anesthesiology (RBA, from the Portuguese) celebrates its 60^th anniversary. Sixty years during which it has been disseminating what has been, and continues to be, produced in Anesthesiology and related fields, as a component of the effort of the Brazilian Society of Anesthesiology (SBA, from the Portuguese) to guarantee the educational and teaching project of forming Brazilian anesthesiologists. Looking at the path of RBA during those years, one can see a constant aim at improving and making our journal to meet ongoing changes and requirements, such as the format, layout, editorial policies, and whatever was necessary to keep the journal on the same level of similar publications. The role of the editors and the unconditional support of the different board of directors of SBA have been fundamental for those changes. Recently, as a result of our fight for many years, our journal achieved indexation in the Medline, the most important in the medical area, a standard for the main scientific journals published in the world. Being part of this index represents an unquestionable improvement in quality and recognition by the scientific community. Several colleagues were involved in this effort, such as Professor Judymara L. Gozzani, MD, Dr. Luiz M. Cangiani, and Professor Gastão F. Duval, MD, editors and coeditor, respectively, as well as those who served in the boards of SBA over past years. Indexation opens the road to the visibility of what is produced in the centers of Anesthesiology research in our country and our authors.

This path cannot be interrupted. An important project is under way to get RBA further on the road of recognition: indexation in Science Direct. Science Direct is the global electronic archive of Elsevier, publishers of RBA. It contains more than 25% of the information produced in the scientific, technological, and medical field worldwide, in which the full text and bibliography are available. To have an idea of what it means, once the RBA is included in this index, Anesthesio logy, the most important journal dedicated to this area and the one that causes most impact, will be on the same page as RBA, as well as important medical vehicles, such as The Lancet, and many others dedicated to Anesthesiology. The Brazilian Journal of Anesthesiology will be the first Brazilian scientific journal to be included in this index, making its contents available. Benefits of indexation include the dissemination of the RBA throughout the world, global visibility and reach, probability of higher impact factor, international recognition of the journal and its authors, and the possibility that libraries, hospitals, and universities will subscribe the journal, which will represent a return of the investments. At the same time, the steps for ISI (Institute for Scientific Information) indexation, an independent index that generates impact for the publication, are under way. The impact factor is related to the number of times a publication is mentioned by other authors/publications. The impact factor is directly related to the reputation and respect of a publication; higher impact corresponds to higher reputation.

We hope those news will be well received by our readers, researchers, collaborators, and partners. We hope that those developments will stimulate more original studies, clinical or laboratorial. And we hope that RBA continues to be a source of continuing education and reference for all our associates. And may RBA celebrate 60 more years.

A Revista Brasileira de Anestesiologia (RBA) completa 60 anos. Sessenta anos initerruptos de publicação para divulgar o que se produziu e produz na área da Anestesiologia ou áreas correlatas, como parte do esforço da Sociedade Brasileira de Anestesiologia (SBA) para garantir seu projeto educacional e formador do anestesiologista brasileiro. Se acompanharmos a trajetória da RBA durante todos esses anos, notaremos uma conduta constante com o objetivo de aprimorar e adequar nosso jornal às mudanças e exigências do passar dos anos. Mudaram-se formatos, diagramações, políticas editoriais e tantos outros necessários para que a RBA estivesse lado a lado com suas similares. Destaque-se o papel fundamental dos editores nessas mudanças e o apoio incondicional das Diretorias da SBA. Recentemente naquela que foi verdadeira luta de muitos anos, conseguiu-se a meta de indexar a RBA em importante índex, o Medline, padrão para os principais jornais científicos publicados no mundo. Fazer parte desse índex representa um salto inquestionável de qualidade e reconhecimento. Vários colegas estiveram envolvidos nesse esforço, como a Profª. Dra. Judymara L. Gozzani, Dr. Luiz M. Cangiani, Prof. Dr. Gastão F. Duval, respectivamente editores e coeditor, e as diretorias da SBA dos últimos anos. Para os centros de pesquisa em Anestesiologia do país, a indexação abre caminho para a visibilidade do que produzimos aqui e quem são nossos autores.

Essa trajetória não pode de forma alguma ser interrompida. Importante projeto está em andamento para que a RBA galgue mais um degrau rumo a seu maior reconhecimento: a indexação no cadastro do Science Direct. O cadastro Science Direct é o arquivo eletrônico global da Elsevier, editora da RBA, de grande sucesso. Essa plataforma eletrônica contém mais de 25% do total de informação produzida pela ciência mundial, tecnologia e medicina, disponível em texto completo, além de informação bibliográfica. Mais de 2.500 jornais e 11.000 livros estão catalogados e disponíveis para acesso direto por via eletrônica. Para se ter uma ideia, quando a RBA estiver no cadastro, na mesma página aparecerão, por exemplo, a Anesthesiology, considerada a mais importante revista dedicada a especialidade e a de maior impacto, além de títulos emblemáticos de nossa profissão, como The Lancet, e muitos outros ligados à Anestesiologia. A RBA será a primeira das revistas científicas brasileiras a figurar nesse cadastro, com seu conteúdo, na íntegra, disponibilizado. Os benefícios serão a difusão da RBA no mundo, visibilidade e alcance globais, probabilidade de geração mais ágil de fator de impacto, prestígio internacional da publicação e autores, retorno de investimento com a possibilidade de assinaturas por bibliotecas, hospitais e universidades. Concomitantemente, estão também iniciados os trâmites para a indexação nas bases de dados do ISI (Institute for Scientific Information), cadastro independente que gera o fator de impacto de uma publicação. Esse fator diz respeito ao número de vezes que o periódico é citado por outros autores/publicações. O fator de impacto está diretamente relacionado ao prestígio e respeito da publicação; quanto maior o impacto, maior o prestígio.
